A body of the German Bundestag that scrutinises the federal government with regard to the activities of three services: the BfV (protection of the constitution), the MAD (military counterintelligence) and the BND (foreign intelligence).
Its legal basis is the Act on the Parliamentary Oversight of Federal Intelligence Activities (PKGrG) of 29 July 2009. The Bundestag elects the members from among its own members at the start of each electoral term, by a majority of its statutory membership (§ 2). The government must inform the panel comprehensively about the general activities of the services and about events of particular importance (§ 4). The rights of the Bundestag, its committees and the commission established under the Article 10 Act (Artikel 10-Gesetz) remain unaffected (§ 1).1
