About
Intelligence without myths
Intelligence attracts more legends than most areas of public life. SpyOps.pl describes this world on the basis of sources: documents, declassified files, legislation and academic research.
We cover history, law, concepts and analysis. We do not publish instructions for operational work, nor reports on current scandals, which date quickly and are hard to verify.
State of knowledge
Every operation card and every text carries a state-of-knowledge label, so readers can see at once how certain the account is.
- ● Confirmed: We know the course of events from documents, declassified files and academic studies, and the sources agree with one another.
- ○ Disputed: The sources differ, or some of the facts rest on accounts that cannot be verified. We show what is certain and what remains interpretation.
- ◌ Classified: A significant part of the case is still secret. We describe only what has been officially disclosed or established by researchers from available documents, and we say what is not known.
Knowledge from the media
We do not leave out facts that are widely known but not confirmed by documents, legislation or academic research. We present them in separate, clearly marked paragraphs labelled “According to media and secondary accounts · not confirmed by official sources”, and we always say who reported them.
When an official source appears, the paragraph loses its label or is corrected.
Editorial standard
Every factual claim has a source, preferably a primary one. For each source we give the date it was checked. Where something is not known, we say so plainly.
We use artificial intelligence tools to help find sources, prepare drafts and check texts, and we do so ethically and openly. We work with several independent tools and cross-check their results against one another, and every figure and quotation is verified against its source. Nothing is published without the approval of the editorial team, which takes responsibility for every text on the site.
Methodology
- Hierarchy of sources. First legislation and institutional documents, declassified files and the official publications of intelligence services; then academic research and archival studies. Media reports and participants’ memoirs are supplementary sources and are always marked as such.
- Concepts. The glossary covers established terms: from statutes, doctrine, the services’ official glossaries and the specialist literature. Where a concept has a legal definition, we quote it word for word, with the number of the provision, alongside a plain-language explanation.
- State of knowledge. Operation and people cards are labelled to show how far the account is confirmed, so that fact, hypothesis and legend do not blur into one.
- Verification. We check every number, date and name against its source. We cross-check the output of AI tools and verify it by hand; whatever cannot be confirmed is left out or explicitly flagged.
- Limits. We describe history, law, concepts and mechanisms. We do not publish instructions for operational work or any data that could harm anyone.
- Dates. For sources we give the date they were checked, and for matters that change, the date the information refers to.
