Military Information Services (Wojskowe Służby Informacyjne, WSI)

Polish special service for military intelligence and counterintelligence, which operated as part of the Armed Forces until 30 September 2006.

The Act of 9 July 2003 on the WSI defined them as a separate, specialised service forming part of the Armed Forces, being a special intelligence and state protection service in matters of defence and the security of the Armed Forces, and subject to oversight by the Sejm (Article 1). The Head of the WSI reported directly to the Minister of National Defence (Article 9(1)), and the structure included, among others, military intelligence and military counterintelligence divisions (Article 10).1

The implementing provisions of 9 June 2006 state that the Act on the WSI ceased to have effect on 30 September 2006 (Article 3) and that the Act on the SKW and the SWW entered into force on 1 October 2006 (Article 1).2

More in the service card: Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW).
