Gathering, analysing and passing on the information a state needs to make decisions about its security. The word also refers to the institutions that do this work.
Polish law lists among the tasks of the Foreign Intelligence Agency (AW) obtaining, analysing, processing and passing to the competent authorities information that may be of significant importance for the security and international standing of the state (Article 6(1)(1) of the Act on the Internal Security Agency and the Foreign Intelligence Agency).1
The CIA's glossary defines intelligence as valuable, secret information about threats and other matters concerning national security, or as the analytical products based on such information.2
