ELINT

electronic intelligence

The part of signals intelligence (SIGINT) based on intercepting emissions from electronic equipment.

ODNI lists ELINT alongside COMINT and FISINT as components of SIGINT: signals intelligence is derived from intercepted signals, however they are transmitted, either individually or in combination. In the United States, SIGINT, including ELINT, is collected, processed and reported by the NSA. The International Spy Museum defines ELINT as electronic intelligence based on intercepting radiation from sources such as radars; it lists RADINT – information obtained from radar – separately.1,2

In Poland, the Act on the Internal Security Agency and the Foreign Intelligence Agency lists conducting signals intelligence among the tasks of the Foreign Intelligence Agency.3
